In case you were wondering what this whole “SALT” thing is about anyway, let me fill you in:
A few months ago I was praying and seeking direction from the Lord in how to help everyone within Mosaic grow deeper in their walk with him. I was immediately drawn back to an analogy I’ve heard about two bodies of water in Israel: the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. In case you haven’t heard it before, check this out:
Both bodies of water have a source so that plenty of water flows into them. The difference is that only the Sea of Galilee has a mouth for water to flow out. It may not seem like a big deal but the difference is night and day. The Sea of Galilee is surrounded by life; people fish there, vegetation is abundant and wildlife lives in and around it. In contrast, there’s nowhere for the water in the Dead Sea to go; it earns its name because nothing can survive in the water; not fish, plants or animals.
This proves a very valuable life lesson for us as Christians: We can take in all the “water” we want but if there’s nowhere for it to go we end up gross, stinky and dead!
Anyone that comes to Mosaic has the opportunity to be watered and to soak in God’s love, and this is a very important part of our walk with Christ. SALT is about developing what you were given and giving back; it’s about pouring out what we’ve been given so that others can feel the love of God. In return, our lives will become fruitful, abundant, and full of life!
Serving and Leading Together. That’s what we’re all about. In addition to the analogy about the two seas, the Lord put on my heart a passage: Matthew 5:13-16. With these two thoughts and help from a group of students on Tuesday afternoons, SALT was born.
The most important thing you can remember is that God’s more concerned with who you are than what you do. Nevertheless, you may be wondering, “Ok, so what exactly does SALT do?” We have plenty of opportunities to get involved, click a link below and read all about it:
